Palm Branches & Focused Hearts

Imagine the scene: a crowd, vibrant with anticipation, laying down their cloaks and branches, proclaiming Jesus as King. It's a powerful image of welcome and adoration, yet within days, that same crowd would cry out for His crucifixion.

This week, the world around us will continue its fast pace. The noise of schedules, games, practices, and everyday pressures will vie for our attention. But what if, in the midst of it all, we chose to intentionally limit those distractions? What if we carved out moments, not just for planning plays or analyzing stats, but for reflecting on the sacrifice that unfolded during this sacred time?

Think of the focus Jesus displayed. He knew what lay ahead, yet He pressed on, focused on His purpose. He didn't let the cheers of the crowd or the shadow of the cross distract Him from His mission. In our own lives, particularly in the world of athletics, distractions can easily pull us off course.

This week, we encourage you to consider:

  • Silence over noise: Find moments of quiet, even if it's just a few minutes, to reflect on the journey of Jesus. Put down the phone, close the laptop, and simply be still.

  • Gratitude over grievances: Amidst the challenges in front of us, take time to express gratitude for the blessings in your life. Reflect on the ultimate gift of grace we are reminded of this week.

  • Service over self: Consider how you can serve your athletes, your staff, and your community this week. Even small acts of kindness can make a significant impact.

Let's use this Holy Week as a time to refocus our hearts, to remember the ultimate example of sacrifice, and to walk with intention towards the hope of Easter Sunday.

May we find strength and inspiration in the unwavering love that was demonstrated, and carry that forward into the way we lead, coach, and live.

Wishing you a blessed and reflective Holy Week.
