Coaching for Transformation, September 1

timeout

Elite athletes compete and push themselves to the limit, training and competing with every ounce of energy they have. It’s a constant grind, day in and day out. Yet, even the most elite athletes understand the critical importance of rest. Without proper recovery, their performance and longevity dwindles, and injuries become more likely.

Our lives often mirror the frantic pace of elite athletes. We juggle work, family, and personal commitments, feeling the pressure to constantly be "on." It’s easy to get caught up in the hustle, neglecting the need for rest. But just as athletes need to recharge, so do we.

Psalm 46:10 reminds us, "Be still, and know that I am God." In the midst of life's chaos, God invites us to pause, to find stillness in His presence. It's in these quiet moments that we reconnect with our source of strength and renewal.

Let's take a moment to reflect on our own lives. Are we allowing ourselves sufficient time to rest? Are we creating spaces for quiet reflection and spiritual rejuvenation? Like an elite athlete, let's prioritize rest as an essential part of our journey.

May God grant us wisdom to recognize when we need to rest and the grace to embrace it.

the honor of struggle

There is no doubt that we go through challenges and struggles. If we are going to help our coaches and student-athletes grow, we must go through struggle. Being challenged is essential, but for our parents, watching their child struggle and not coming through for the team is no doubt difficult.

One of your roles as a leader is to communicate clearly with coaches and parents the honor of struggle. It will prepare our them for future challenges. This is WHY you want to have adversity. Help coaches and parents understand that bad calls and tough situations are all necessary.
