Proverbs 14:15b says "The prudent man considers his steps"
A quote that goes along with this idea of considering your steps is “slow and steady wins the race.” When you think of how to build a sustainable and successful athletic program, here are three things to remember as you focus on the “slow and steady”.
Developing student-athletes for life. Yes, you are investing in fundamental skills, tactics, techniques, conditioning, and mental toughness, but it means more for us that are aligned with CfT. What you are teaching your student-athletes now should be preparing them for their future, where they can look back one day and say, “I am who I am in part due to the teaching and coaching I received from my [insert your school name].” When looking at your CfT Gameplan, how are your Essential Practices building into your student-athletes on a daily basis?
Cultivating a Christ-centered culture. Yes, you are fostering a supportive environment through open communication, team building, and positivity, but it’s more than that for us that are aligned with CfT. You are showing them what it means to be a Jesus follower. What steps are you taking to show them how you follow Jesus intentionally? Yes, prayer at the beginning and end of practices is expected and normal, but how are you showing them what it means to compete and do it for God’s glory? How are your Transformative Principles supporting your school’s mission and vision?
Practice sustainable coaching and leadership. How are you prioritizing work-life balance, continuous learning, and collaborating with others? Consider this winter season how you are going to turn it off when you get home. Consider how you are going to be “in the moment” when coaching and leading and then being in the moment when home with your family. Put up those guardrails that will sustain you long-term in doing what you love—coaching.
Remember, consider your steps this season. Have purpose with each step you take. Grow fast, built to crash. Grow slow, build to last.

Failure doesn’t exist?
In this interview with Kobe Bryant, he states that “failure doesn’t exist? Do you agree with that statement? Click the image below and watch the video. After you watch the video, continue reading below.
While Kobe’s belief that “failure doesn’t exist” may seem counterintuitive, his philosophy offers a powerful perspective on setbacks and challenges.
Rather than viewing failure as a definitive outcome, Kobe suggests that it's simply a stepping stone on the path to learning, growing and ultimately success. Every miss, every loss, every setback and every mistake is an opportunity to learn, grow, and improve. By embracing this mindset, we as leaders can transform adversity into fuel for future triumphs.
As Proverbs 24:16 says, "The godly may trip seven times, but they will get up again." This verse echoes Kobe's thoughts, emphasizing the importance of perseverance and resilience in the face of setbacks as leaders.
As we move into the winter season, see your setbacks and failures for what they are - an opportunity to grow and develop into the leader that God wants you to be.
