PERSEVERING THROUGH THE GRIND
“Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” - Galatians 6:9
As Athletic Directors and Coaches, we often find ourselves in the midst of a whirlwind of activity, juggling meetings with parents, planning practices, scouting games, and other administrative tasks that many don’t see. It can be easy to feel overwhelmed and discouraged, especially during this winter season. Galatians 6:9 provides a powerful reminder to persevere.
1. The Power of Endurance:
Galatians 6:9 emphasizes the importance of enduring in doing good. We all have the opportunity to positively impact the lives of our student-athletes, both on and off the field. By consistently showing up, offering guidance, and demonstrating a strong work ethic, we can inspire our athletes to reach their full potential. Keep moving forward through your struggles and lead well. Your student-athletes see you!
2. The Promise of a Harvest:
Galatians 6:9 also assures us that if we don’t give up, we will reap a harvest at the proper time. While the rewards of being a leader may not always be immediate or tangible, we can trust that the work we do is making a difference. The victories, the setbacks, the growth of our student-athletes, and the lasting relationships we build are all part of the harvest we will reap.
3. The Importance of Staying Focused:
In the midst of the chaos, it’s vital to stay focused on what truly matters. In times of adversity, reflect on your transformative principles and how you can utilize your essential practices to navigate through those challenges and find true joy in the process.
Let’s commit together to persevere through the grind, knowing that the work we are doing will be rewarded. By remaining faithful in our commitment to what God has called each of us to do, we can make an eternal impact on their lives.

Team USA / Pacific Lutheran University
How does our Transformative Principles and/or Essential Practices support a culture of "nobility in struggle" within our athletic program?
What are some practical strategies we can implement to help our student-athletes embrace challenges?
How can we, as leaders, navigate our own struggles while guiding our teams/staff we lead?
What would our athletic departments look like if we spent more time embracing failure and, instead of deflecting blame outward, were more introspective.
